Monday Collection: Late to the Party for Latinx Heritage Month

Since I sat on launching this blog for the first several months of the pandemic, I’ve missed so many amazing opportunities for really gorgeous and unique Monday Collections. I realize Latinx Heritage Month wrapped up a few days ago, but I’m really excited about some of these beautiful products, and who wouldn’t love another few days of celebration anyway?

Before getting into the collection, I’m using “Latinx” – as opposed to “Hispanic” – as I defer to the Human Rights Campaign on the topic. The HRC site states “HRC has adopted the term ‘Latinx’ rather than Hispanic or Latino to represent the identities of non-binary, gender non-conforming and gender-expansive people. ‘Latinx’ also centers the lives of indigenous, Brazilian and other non-Spanish speaking people in this celebration.”

I’m not an expert by any means, but this article from The Los Angeles Times gives a little history on the month-long celebration of “Hispanic Heritage Month” and some details on why many people are using Latino and Latinx as opposed to Hispanic. The same article also links to further reading.

Like I said, I’m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m always looking for ways to evolve in being a decent, kind and thoughtful human. I’m open to and interested in hearing conversation from Hispanic, Latinx and indigenous followers on this topic. And for my white readers, it’s so important to listen, learn and use that knowledge to appropriately respect and uplift cultures different from your own.

On to a collection of lovely work by Latinx creatives…
